Background of the Study

Television remains a powerful medium for disseminating health information, particularly in communities with limited access to other forms of mass communication. In Jega Local Government Area (LGA), Kebbi State, television campaigns have been employed to raise awareness about health issues such as maternal health, immunization, hygiene, and the prevention of communicable diseases. With its ability to combine visual and auditory elements, television effectively captures attention and simplifies complex health messages, making them accessible to a wide audience (Ahmed & Musa, 2023; Bello et al., 2024). Recent studies emphasize that culturally tailored and participatory television campaigns can significantly influence health behaviors, improving knowledge, attitudes, and practices among target populations (Yusuf et al., 2025). This study evaluates the impact of television campaigns on health awareness in Jega LGA, focusing on their effectiveness in promoting behavioral change and improving public health outcomes.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the prevalence of health challenges in Jega LGA, the impact of television campaigns on raising health awareness remains underexplored. Many campaigns fail to resonate with the local audience due to inadequate cultural relevance, language barriers, or poor content design (Okafor & Musa, 2024). Furthermore, limited access to television in some households poses additional challenges to message dissemination (Ahmed & Bello, 2025). This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of television campaigns in raising health awareness in Jega LGA, addressing gaps in campaign design, delivery, and impact assessment.

  2. To examine the effectiveness of campaign content and delivery in promoting health-related behavioral change.

  3. To evaluate the overall impact of television campaigns on public health outcomes in Jega LGA.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. How do television campaigns contribute to raising health awareness in Jega LGA?

  2. How effective is the content and delivery of television campaigns in promoting behavioral change?

  3. What is the overall impact of television campaigns on public health outcomes in Jega LGA?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. Television campaigns significantly raise health awareness in Jega LGA.

  2. Effective content and delivery of television campaigns promote health-related behavioral change.

  3. Television campaigns positively impact public health outcomes in Jega LGA.
